Last week I happened upon textile designer Lotta Jansdotter's new book Handmade Living.
I had no idea it was coming out so of course I had to buy it on the spot. I started buying Lotta's bags a long time ago, I think she was still living and working in San Francisco. I love the simple designs and of course, the nice quality linen she uses on all her projects.

She now lives in Brooklyn, much closer to her home in Ă…land, an island between Finland and Sweden. I've always loved her Swedish aesthetic and her new book features her small Swedish-inspired home in Brooklyn. Here is a picture of some of the items she has in her tiny kitchen (I think I will never complain about my kitchen being too small!).
But of course, my favorite chapter is all about her Brooklyn studio. I remember reading her blog when they moved in and seeing it all come together beautifully. I would love to have this space!
I sat down last week with a cup of green tea and read the book cover to cover. As soon as I put the book down, I sketched out tons of ideas for things to make around the house. First on the list, a new runner. I used leftover fabric on which my daughter had 'lovingly' drawn all over in permanant marker last year.

OOOOw what a lovely book! I need it too!
PS would be nice to have access to your library!
I am going to pick that book up tomorrow- I had not heard of it before but it sounds lovely! Followed your life story over from BYW, nice to meet you:)
I got a chance to meet her this past summer at Renegade Brooklyn...what a lovely lady! I credit her with really encouraging me to get into screenprinting. Can't wait to get her new book.
